Key Stage 4 Options Evening

Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: Key Stage 4 Options Evening

I would like to invite you to your son/daughter’s Key Stage 4 Options Evening which will be held on Wednesday, 24th January 2018.

We follow a two year Key Stage 3 and a three year Key Stage 4 structure at Sir John Hunt. This means that students in Year 8 will choose their Key Stage 4 subjects this academic year and will begin their GCSE courses at the start of Year 9. In many subjects, Year 9 will act as a foundation year, with students developing the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to be successful later in the course. It is not our intention for students to take examinations or formal assessments during Year 9.

The evening will begin with a presentation about the options process for 2018, followed by an opportunity to talk to staff about the most suitable courses for your child. There will also be the opportunity to see both our Careers and Special Educational Needs teams, should this be a consideration linked to the choice of Key Stage 4 courses your child wishes to take.

Following the event, if you would like to meet with a member of our team to discuss the best options for your child, please contact Mrs McGowan, Assistant Pastoral Leader for Year 8, who will help to arrange an appointment with the relevant member of staff.

We will be writing to you after the Christmas break to provide a more detailed schedule for the Options Evening. In the meantime, if you are able to start discussing the sorts of careers that might interest your son/daughter, that would be a great help and an advantage when it comes to making those option choices.

I sincerely hope that you will be able to join us at this important event in your child’s education.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs D Stanton
Assistant Principal KS3
