Lead Learner Day Was a Huge SuccessOn June 8th 2017 two hundred and forty of our feeder primary school Year 5 students made the journey to Sir John Hunt to take part in the annual Lead Learner Day. For the first time in twelve years the heavens had opened, but despite the deluge, the sixty two Year 9 lead Learners were raring to go. At 9.45 when the Year 5’s started filing in to the sports hall, the size of the task at hand really hit home! With the schools being split in to countries the first of the day's three sessions could begin.
Each country would work in science, art, MFL, PE and maths. Staff from these areas had worked closely with the Year 9 lead learners to plan sessions that would engage and invigorate the younger children and they did just that. Even as the first sessions came to a close, the students from the five primary schools were buzzing about what would happen next.
Whether they were making rocket fuel in science, creating art masterpieces or working closely as a team to beat the challenges set by the PE lead learners, all the students were active and engaged throughout the day. Staff from the primary schools couldn’t get over how organised our Year 9 students were and we had comments throughout the day about their leadership skills. After a busy, wet but fun day, Croatia were crowned the champions for their fantastic team effort in every session.
Well done to all the staff and students that were involved, the day really was a huge success!
